According to Ayurveda a holistic way of living, chronic pain is caused by doshic imbalances and is influenced by many factors like diet, digestion, toxin accumulation, stress, exercise levels and daily routine

1) Removing the Buildup of Toxins and Impurities

Ayurvedic herbalized oil massages helps in loosening impurities that are embedded in tissues and helps liquefy them for easy absorption into the circulation and eventual elimination of pain.

2) Proper Nutrition

Ayurveda advises a easy to digest and a satisfying and nourishing dietary approach that improves the digestion along with ayurvedic herbal formulas which helps in restoring balance to the specific functioning modes whose malfunctioning causes the chronic pain.

3) Creating Strong Digestion

Incompletely digested foods create toxins and impurities that are eventually absorbed, travel throughout the physiology, localize in tissues and disrupt their functioning leading to a chronic pain which is treated by a proper use of spices and cooking oils, by favouring digestion-enhancing foods, by reducing digestion-depressing foods.

4) Balancing Nervous System Activity

Vata imbalance is an underlying cause of the painful condition and is reversed by specific diets, herbs, cleansing programs, meditation, yoga asanas and yoga breathing exercises.

5) Stress Management

Excessive mental, emotional and physical stress can worsen the symptoms of many chronic pain. Ayurveda treats it by massage and heat treatments by yoga asana postures

6) Lifestyle and Daily Routine

One of the most important factors for maintaining healthy functioning is to have a lifestyle that does not disturb natural bodily rhythms. Ayurveda reviews and creates a daily schedule that will increase balance in your physiology and aid in healing your body.

7) Exercise and Flexibility Education

Ayurveda advises proper stretching and flexibility exercises as it has a very positive effect on circulation, nervous system function, the body’s healing response thereby treats many chronic pains.

Thus ayurveda manages the chronic pain by approaching it in the above integrated manner and its results speak for themselves.

Congratulations! You just received your new kit of premiere massage stones. They are magnificent: shiny, smooth, and symmetrical. You are ready to give your patient (a customer or that someone special) a relaxing massage, using the stones. But you are uncertain about which procedure best heats the stones. Should you let them sunbathe outside? Should you put them in a big bucket of hot water? Should you nuke them in the microwave? As with any other tool, a massage stone must be used properly, in order for its effectiveness to be maximized. Hot rocks for massaging are no exception. It is vital to follow the correct procedures when heating your massage stone collection:

1. Stone soup. Some people use appliances such as crock-pots, to heat their stones for massages. If you use this technique before you get your massage stone heater, be certain to follow some important steps. The temperature should be set to medium, and the stones should be arranged evenly around the container’s basin. This will ensure that the stones are heated evenly and gradually. However, it is advisable that you secure a proper heater, as they are specially designed to heat massage rocks, rather than meat and potatoes

2. Breaking in the stones. Before the first time you use your stones for massage, rinse them in warm water, and then oil them using massage oil. Next, let the stones sit for a while, so they absorb the oil. Then the stones are ready to be heated, and used for a relaxing, invigorating massage.

3. Good as new. Between massages, it is important to clean your massage stones. For roughly 5-10 minutes, boil the stones in a deep pan that has been filled with water. Does the type of water matter? River or sea water should be your first option. However, boiled tap water with some sea salt added can work well as an alternative. After cleaning the stones, let them cool naturally at room temperature.

Special products on the market, such as disinfectant, will help to make your stones clean as a whistle, before you place the first one on your patient’s back. Products such as alcohol and tree oil can be used. However, the stones could absorb these substances, including their scents. In addition, some people may even have an allergic reaction to such liquids.

4. Too hot to handle? How do you know when a massage stone is too hot? As a general rule, if you can handle them without any difficulty, then the stones are not too hot. While heating and using the stones, check them periodically to verify that they are not too hot.

5. Gentlemen, start your heater! Various types of massage stone heaters are available. Typically, they resemble shallow pans that hold water that has been heated. Thus, the rocks are able to achieve a temperature that is even. Whichever heater you choose, it is of the utmost importance that it does not overheat the stones, as they can seem to take forever to cool off. Also, for any heater that you use, ensure that the heating fixture emits a temperature that is stable and adjustable.

6. Rock on! (but not too soon). After cleaning your stones for massage, wait a while before you reuse them. The stones will be too hot after the cleaning process. You should let them first air dry indoors or outdoors.

After you get your massage stones, spend some time learning how to clean, maintain, and heat them. Though the stones are perfect for massages, follow some basic steps to ensure that they will continue to serve their purpose well. Then your stones will be ready for the main event!

Ayurvedic massage techniques provide respite, circulation and elimination of toxins. If implemented as a daily practice, Ayurvedic massage techniques can even help to revitalize the body.

In ancient times, Ayurvedic clinics did not frequently offer massage, as everybody gave and received it. Only when patients needed a particular treatment, they were referred to massage specialists that used the suitable Ayurvedic massage techniques.

Today in India , massagers roam the public places in great number and give head and body a go for a few chunks of rupees. Although they often have little knowledge of Ayurveda but they do know how to work with muscles, joints and bones. Many have received training based on the massage developed by wrestlers and body builders.

Ayurvedic doctors who were also wrestlers developed a special system of their own that contained the knowledge of the Ayurvedic as well as Unani (Greek) systems of medicine. These conventional Indian massage techniques are based on the Ayurvedic humors (vata, pitta and kapha) and marmas (pressure points like in reflexology). They also comprise Muslim massage techniques with pressure points called Muqame Makhsoos.

Specific Ayurvedic massage techniques have also been developed for massage therapy, used in certain therapeutic treatments like in panchakarma (means five techniques). These massage techniques should only be practiced in a particular diseased condition under supervision of a well qualified Ayurvedic doctor or vaidya.

In rural areas, weekly massage is still a family scene. People in India love it – they know that like a best friend it brings joy and relaxation to the body. The popular image of Lord Vishnu reclining on a serpent (Sesh-naag) and receiving foot massage from his consort Goddess Lakshmi shows it as a preferred pastime even of the gods.

Massage techniques can also help to uphold a loving relationship between husband and wife. After this kind of calming relaxation, it is easier to share and give love. Before marriage it is one of the few ceremonial massages in the Hindu ritual that is compulsory even today. Urban Beauty Massage is also very popular.

It is also often used to help the aged and special techniques have been developed for young and nursing mothers as well as babies. Babies are usually massaged with a small dough ball dipped in vegetable oil.

The Ayurvedic Oil Massage is carried out with warm oil and is a great way of recharging and rejuvenating the mind and body.

The “Abhyanga” (Ayurvedic Oil Massage) is an integral part of any daily routine recommended by the Ayurveda Healing System to bring a person overall health and well-being.

A full body oil massage, when carried out on a daily basis, will nourish and pacify the Vata and Kapha as well as relieving fatigue, providing us with stamina, pleasure and perfect sleep it also enhances an persons complexion and the luster of their skin, will promote longevity in a person and nourishes all parts of a persons body.

Below are provided some of the benefits that a person can expect from having an Ayurvedic Massage daily.

1. There is increased circulation around the body especially to the body’s nerve endings.

2. Increased toning of the body’s muscles and the whole physiology.

3. Nerves become calmed.

4. Joints become lubricated.

5. A person’s mental alertness is increased.

6. There is an improvement where elimination of impurities from the body is concerned.

7. A person finds that their skin becomes smoother and softer.

8. People who have Ayurvedic Massage on a daily basis will find that their levels of stamina are increased throughout the day.

9. Many people find that they sleep better and deeper at night.

Normally an Ayurvedic Massage is performed in the morning before you have a bath or shower. Either cured sesame oil, herbalized massage oil or aroma massage oil can be used to carry out an Ayurvedic Massage.

An Ayurvedic Massage is done using comfortably warm massage oil and then the finger tips are dipped into the warm oil before it is applied lightly to the entire body. You will then need to wait for 4-5 minutes which allows some of the oil to be absorbed by the skin. You then begin to massage the entire body remembering to apply even pressure with the whole hand (palm and fingers). You should however apply lighter pressure on sensitive areas such as around the abdomen and heart. Also when working on the nerve ending you should use more oil and spend more time massaging them. These areas where you should concentrate more with regard to nerve endings are the soles of the feet, palms of the hands along the based of each fingernail. Whilst you should use circular motions around the rounded areas of the body such as your head or joints, whilst straight strokes should be used on the straight areas of the body such as the arms and legs. Once you have completed the massage relax for 10-15 minutes allowing the oil and massage to work its magic on you then follow it with a relaxing warm bath or shower.

However if your lifestyle does not allow for a daily massage then try to arrange to have one at least 3 to 4 times a week instead. You will soon find just how wonderful an Ayurvedic Massage is for you.

Have you noticed that when you’re under stress, pounds seem to pack on more easily… whereas when you’re relaxed and life is going well, it’s just less of an issue? I sure have, and in fact I find that I often lose a few pounds while on vacation even though I eat as much, if not more than normal. I recently joked about this with Daily Health News contributing medical editor Andrew L. Rubman, ND, who confirmed my hypothesis that stress alters the metabolism.

Cortisol is the culprit, he told me. The fight or flight syndrome that is the basis of our physiological response to stress causes the adrenal glands to produce this hormone, whose job it is to modulate the effects of insulin on blood sugar. Ongoing stress can tax the system beyond its normal abilities… especially when coupled with poor dietary choices.

The body “prepares” to fight or flee by packing away energy stores it thinks it will need. Cortisol irregularities also affect blood sugar balance. Mostly these are due to aging, ongoing stress, insufficient cholesterol reserves and dietary imbalances (** add sleep disorder to this list – Ram ). Cortisol levels normally rise in the morning (peaking around 7 am) and fall in the evening. If you regularly awaken in the middle of the night for no other reason than to worry — about your teenager, your social calendar, your bank account — you should pay attention. “This may be your adrenal gland saying ‘wake up,’ there is something wrong with your insulin-cortisol- blood sugar balance,” says Dr. Rubman.

GETTING BACK INTO BALANCE
Signs that your body is not properly managing blood sugar levels swing to both extremes:

Low blood sugar, or hypoglycemia: Common symptoms of hypoglycemia include anxiety, sweating, hunger, trembling, headache, clamminess and heart palpitations. When severe, these can progress to confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness, coma and even death.

High blood sugar or hyperglycemia: Common symptoms of hyperglycemia include hunger, thirst, frequent urination, fatigue or extreme tiredness, blurred vision and unexplained weight loss.
If you see yourself in either of these categories — particularly if you have several symptoms — ask your doctor for blood and urine tests that can determine whether you are entering a danger zone. Fortunately this is the stage where you can still prevent serious disease — insulin resistance is often fully reversible. To control blood sugar, Dr. Rubman individually prescribes a supplemental regimen that may include the following measures, adding the caveat that supplements should always be used under a physician’s supervision, so consult your doctor for an individualized prescription.

Make sure you take in sufficient chromium. This essential trace mineral is necessary for efficient insulin function and carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. Chromium helps keep insulin and cortisol in balance, says Dr. Rubman. Brewer’s yeast is one of the best sources, but it can cause bloating and nausea so it is better to rely on dietary sources, including beef, liver, eggs, chicken, oysters, wheat germ, green peppers, apples, bananas and spinach. If diet alone proves insufficient, chromium polynicotinate supplements can be taken.

Love your liver. Maintaining optimal liver function helps keep blood sugar in balance by providing a reserve to supply glucose to the bloodstream when there’s a temporary shortfall. In addition to the helpful strategies listed above, consider supportive supplements such as glucomannan, a fiber supplement that is particularly effective at removing wastes from the liver via bile. Dr. Rubman often prescribes this fiber supplement for his patients to take 30 minutes before lunch and dinner with a large glass of water.

Bulk up on vitamin B. According to Dr. Rubman, the “minimum daily requirement” for vitamin B is not sufficient for optimal digestive performance so he often prescribes a high-potency B vitamin twice daily for his patients. Also, many people are what he calls “functionally deficient” in vitamin B-12, which can impair other B vitamin functions and a myriad of physiological processes, so it’s a good idea to ask your physician to assess your B-12 level. Bright yellow urine is a good sign that you’re getting an adequate supply from your multi-B supplement (the color is produced by trace amounts of Riboflavin, or B-2, spilling over into the urine). Dr. Rubman prefers B-12 sublingual (dissolved under the tongue) pills that come in the form of hydroxycobalamin or methylcobalamin, which should only be prescribed by a doctor.

Fill up on fiber. Fiber helps everything move smoothly and efficiently through the digestive tract. Fiber promotes healthy flora in the gut and binds and transports excess bile acids out of the body. Fiber-rich meals help contribute to a steady and sustained contribution to blood sugar. All that’s widely recognized, yet in this country our average fiber intake is 10 grams daily, while 25 to 30 grams are required for good health. Good high fiber foods include steamed vegetables, ripe fruits, lentils, black beans, barley, chickpeas, bulgur, brown rice, oatmeal and whole-grain breads and cereals. Avoid refined and processed items such as white bread, pasta, cornflakes, cookies, candy and other sweets. Another benefit of fiber-rich foods? They have the advantage of satisfying hunger more effectively, since they are broken down slowly in the digestive system. In contrast, simple and refined sugars (for example, from processed foods and sweets) quickly cause blood sugar spikes… then a crash in energy that leaves you craving something sweet. Diet Pills Hut

As always, the goal is to prevent big problems like diabetes and heart disease from developing by identifying them at an earlier and more controllable stage. Blood sugar is one indicator to pay close attention to… the payoff will be better health.

A day spa is a great place to go to relax. You can find many different massage therapies to relieve your tensions and anxieties. For most of us, the use of a day spa may be once a week or maybe a few times a week. The occasional day at the spa helps to relieve stress that has built up over the course of a week or a few days. Unfortunately, the stress reduction from an afternoon at the spa lasts for the rest of the day. Stress and anxiety is ongoing and doesn’t stop at the day spa. You can have daily stress relief with a shiatsu massage chair recliner.

Studies have proven over and over that a therapeutic massage helps people feel less anxious and stressed, more relaxed, and more alert. A massage for stress relief aids in relaxation because it contributes to peace of mind and to an emotional feeling of well-being. A shiatsu massage chair helps to relieve aching and tired muscles helping one to relax.

Mentally, a massage improves one’s ability to recognize and monitor stress, enabling them to respond appropriately. A massage for stress relief enables a person to think calmly and more creatively. Music during the massage helps to take the mind off the items that are perturbing it. This allows the whole body to relax. Massage chair manufacturers are including MP3 players in their massage chairs to help one to further relax.

Doctors and researchers are beginning to discover that in addition to the positive impact of massage on anxiety. It can also help the patient lower blood pressure, increase circulation, heal from injury, sleep better and increase concentration. Shiatsu massage recliners have capabilities to massage the entire back, the thighs and buttocks, the calves and feet and the hands and arms. All of these factors have a positive effect on combating stress and anxiety.

As anxiety and tension decreases with a routine massage chair therapy, the body’s energy and invigoration increases. As one feels better, in turn, an improved self-image, sense of self worth may result. In fact, massage therapy and the depression connection is now being explored. That’s because massage therapy has in some cases helped to reduce feelings of depression and negative self-worth. If your body is stressed and you cannot relax, this can lead to anxiety which may start thoughts of negativity. With the help of a shiatsu massage chair, this cycle could be reversed.

With a shiatsu massage chair, one does not have to give up trips to the day spa. A massage chair will increase the frequency of access to massage therapy which helps to provide daily relief. Day spas offer treatments that you cannot get with a massage chair, such as a sauna or peels or wraps. Maybe we will see these in the future as technology advances, but for now a routine massage or an evening in a massage chair can really work wonders on your physical and mental well-being.

Ayurveda has been one of the major forms of treatment of several ailments; it is used in the treatment of various diseases and deformities both physical and mental. Recently Ayurvedic message has emerged as one of the boosting therapy for human kind.

Ayurvedic massage therapy though does not provide a complete therapeutic cure but it assists the individual to receive nutrients from within the body and to expel the harmful toxins.

Various deformities pertaining to the muscles, ligaments and nervous system can be cured via ayurvedic massage therapy. Diseases which are caused by deranged muscles etc. massage therapy is the best remedy for that. Ayurvedic massage therapy involves the practitioners who do the treatment from the knowledge of the Marmas or Indian pressure points. Ayurvedic massage therapy is an ideal remedy for pain like headache.

Ayurvedic Body Treatment is accompanied with a dry, silk glove exfoliation, followed by a warm herbalized oil application. Therapist applies a mask of purified and herbal clay collected from deep in the earth in remote regions of India. This soil mask nourishes as well as detoxifies the skin, leading to more glow and smoothie feel. The massage if finished with a hot towel wipe down, at the point where you will be given a robe and escorted to the shower to rinse off the remaining clay.

Ayurvedic massage is helpful in treating:

•	Tension and infections of the gums and teeth.

•	Acidity

•	Gastritis.

•	Inflammation of the stomach.

•	Severe Ulcers

•	Intestinal disorders

•	Disorders of the fallopian tubes.

•	Kidney disorders.

•	Disorders of urinary tract.

•	Neuralgia.

•	Formation of cataract.

•	Disorders of the brain and the spinal nerves

Ayurvedic massage therapy can be a real cure in case of arthritis, rheumatism, neurasthenia, high or low blood pressure, sciatica, paralysis, polio and insomnia. In all these cases, the massage practitioner should however also prescribe specific medication, changes in daily habits, exercises, etc

Epilepsy (seizure disorder, fits) is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent instances of seizure or tremors. These are due to abnormal excitation from brain. Vitamins Epilepsy treatment methods are aimed at controlling the disease. Most cases of juvenile epilepsy don’t pass over to adulthood.Hip replacement

Not all epilepsy cases are alike. Sometimes there can be apparent reasons like stress, brain injury, genetic conditions and parasitic infection of brain. It is also observed that instance of epilepsy can occur without any solid provable reason.Std clinic birmingham

Epilepsy due to specific reasons like use of certain drugs, epilepsy as withdrawal symptom, seizure due to abnormal levels of sodium in blood are temporary cases and will be cured without any special treatments apart from the medicines and diet to return to normal health.Hoodia Gordonii

Epilepsy treatment in Ayurveda

Apasmara or apasmaram is the term used for epilepsy in Ayurveda. The reasons sited by Ayurveda scripts include stressful life, lazy life, poor diet and suppression of natural urges.

Each person is different and each case of epilepsy is also different. Thorough examination of the patient by an Ayurvedic physician is essential to identify the right treatment for a person.Permanent Make Up

Epilepsy in most cases is a vata disorder. However, it can also be caused by vitiation of pitta or kapha. Imbalances of all the three doshas are also not very rare.

Vata type seizure is mainly a mental problem. Stressful days, poor sleep and mental exertion are reasons. Digestive problems like gastritis, constipation etc. can also be reasons.Invisible braces

Rest, normalized diet and specific time to take food can help such persons control epilepsy. Abhayanga or Ayurvedic oil massage, shirodhara (pouring of medicated oil over head), thalam (retaining medicated oil on head) helps in pacifying mind. Slimming pills Paul Mitchell Nerve tonic herbs like Aswagandha (Withania somnifera), Brahmi (Bacopa monniera), Jatamamsi (Nardastachys jatamansi), Shanka pushpi (Evolvulus alsinoides) etc are used to pacify nervous system and to reduce instances of abnormal brain functioning.Cosmetic Dentist

Inflammations inside head due to diseases like Encephalitis cause pitta type seizures. Exposure to heat is a high risk factor in such cases of seizures. Kapha type epilepsy is due to blocks in central nervous system. A sedentary or highly secluded life can lead to this condition.

Kapha type epilepsy is also characterized by excess salivation. Tulsi (holy basil), Acorus calamus, etc are the type of herbs beneficial in kapha epilepsy.Fitness Equipment

Prevention of Epilepsy Ayurveda way

Regulate the lifestyle with Ayurvedic daily routine (dinacharya).

Stay as much positive about the day and life as possible. Don’t allow tensions to creep in to your mind. Don’t get excited at anything. Start practicing yoga meditation.Spray Tan

Keep your daily diet fully nutritive. Don’t eat late at night. If possible go for five or six small meals a day, instead of one or two big meals.

Massage your soles with coconut oil or sesame oil before going to bed. This give your head a cooling effect.Health Insurance

Monsoon! Monsoon!
Please come quick
To water the plants
That looks like sticks

We need the rain
We need the rain
To trickle down
Our dried up drains …

This poem caught my eyes while browsing internet. Monsoon brings joy as plants wear a green look, rivers swell to brim and dry lands become wet. The grim side of this season is increased humidity which troubles humans.

What is humidity?

Humidity is the amount of water vapor in air. It is usually described as “relative humidity” and expressed in percentage. 100% humidity means the water vapor in the air is at its maximum at that particular temperature.

When humidity is low (amount of water vapor is less in air), the evaporation from the surrounding areas is rapid. Hence the clothes dry quickly, soil dries up, sweat evaporates from skin etc.

When humidity is high (amount of water vapor is more in air), clothes dry slowly, sweat does not evaporate from skin and we feel sticky and uncomfortable.

We feel comfortable when humidity is 45-50% and temperature 20 to 22 degree Celsius. Any broad variation in these may cause health problems.

Effects of increased humidity on human body :

Human body maintains its temperature by transferring body heat to surrounding air through evaporation of perspiration (sweat). When humidity is high in air the evaporation of sweat decreases and maintenance of body temperature is altered. Along with high humidity if atmosphere temperature is high, the blood circulation increases on surface of skin and decreases in muscles and other organs. Hence we experience fatigue in climate which is high in temperature and humidity.

Molds, mildews, bacteria, virus, dust mites proliferate when humidity increases in surrounding air. They grow on air conditioners, shower heads, damp walls, toilets , wet carpets and on other moist substances. Their spores which are called bio-aerosols, are constantly released into air. Bio-aerosols cause infection and allergies. They trigger asthma attacks and other respiratory diseases.

Researchers have found that osteo-arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis flare up in high humid weather.

According to Ayurvedic texts the humidity increases during rainy season. The Agni (body fire or digestive power) which is reduced during summer decreases still further and gets vitiated by doshas. Doshas get vitiated due to changes in weather like increased humidity, coldness, dampness etc.

How to reduce humidity at home

Repair the source which is causing dampness or wetness at home .Leaking roofs, taps and tanks should be repaired to prevent leaking.

Keep the rain drain free from clogs and let the water from rain drain flow away from your basement.

Switch on exhaust fans or vent fans after bathing and cooking.

Do not dry clothes inside. This increases humidity inside home.

Use a digital hygrometer to monitor humidity.

Use a dehumidifier to bring down the humidity to 50% or less.

Ayurvedic tips to keep healthy in humid conditions:

One has to undergo detoxification therapies like Vamana and Virechana.

Asthapana basthi (An enema of herbal decoction) has to be administered to keep away humidity related health problems.

The digestive system gets weakened due to dehydration in summer. This leads to low digestive power. This is further weakened by vitiation of doshas and dhatus due to increased humidity. Hence following diets which increase power of digestion and strengthen the digestive system would be beneficial.

a. Light foods prepared out of old barley, rice and wheat.
b. Sour and salted soups of vegetables.
c. Drinking boiled and cooled water mixed with little honey.
d. Consuming little quantity of wine prepared out of grapes.
e. Adding ginger and green gram in daily diet.
f. Eating warm food.
g. The taste of food must be preferably sour and salty.

Do not walk in bare foot. Always wear dry foot wear to prevent growth of fungus on nails and between toes. Dry your feet and webs with soft dry cloth whenever they are wet.

The clothes should be fumigated using fragrant herbs. Drying clothes with fumes of loban and dry neem leaves is recommended in ayurvedic texts.

We should not sleep in basement as it will be damp and growth of moulds and fungus will be more.

Fumigating the house with smoke of dried neem leaves in evenings for 1-2 minutes is an excellent ayurvedic method to check the growth of microbes,

Always keep the surrounding dry and clean. Do not allow water to get accumulated around.

Ayurvedic Home remedies for Humidity related diseases

Apply castor oil or sesame oil on cracked feet and skin.

A freshly prepared paste of turmeric, neem and sesame seeds is recommended in ayurveda for fungal infection between toes.

Drink a glass of warm water mixed with a tea spoon of honey in empty stomach. This flushes out accumulated toxins.

Freshly prepared radish juice is the best remedy for cold.

A pinch each of long pepper powder and rock salt mixed in warm water reduces cough
